What you need to know about MOTs:
All Class 5 vehicles must have an MOT test every year once they are over one year old. This differs from other cars and light vehicles, which don’t need an MOT until they are three years old.
An MOT pass certificate only confirms your vehicle met or exceeded the minimum legal standards at the time of the inspection. What’s also important to note, is that having an MOT isn’t the same as having a service. Find out more about servicing here.
Class 4 MOT covers the following vehicles:
Private passenger vehicles
Public service vehicles, including ambulances
Dual purpose vehicles with 13 or more passenger seats
The overall condition of a vehicles bodywork and structure is extensively checked during an MOT test, along with the following:
Fuel system
Exhaust system & emissions
Seats & belts
Doors
Mirrors
Brakes
Tyres and wheels
Registration plates
Lights
Bonnet
Wipers and washers
Windscreen
Horn
Steering and suspension
